William S. Bulpitt, PE

Mr. Bulpitt returned to Georgia Tech in 2004 after a career in the utility and environmental fields. He is currently responsible for directing research efforts in energy and has recently completed a major study on wind energy resources in the southeast for Southern Company and is currently leading research efforts at Georgia Tech on converting pine trees to cellulosic ethanol. Before returning to Georgia Tech he worked for RMT, Inc., a full service environmental consultant in Atlanta. Before RMT, Mr. Bulpitt had a 17 year career with Southern Energy, Inc. (which later became Mirant) and was responsible for a diverse portfolio of projects which included constructing and operating the world's largest (at the time) fluidized bed biomass gasification system. For six years at Southern Energy he held the position of Director of Environmental Affairs and was responsible for maintaining the environmental compliance of 10,000 Megawatts of electric generating plants installed worldwide, and finally at Southern Energy he was Director of Business Development and developed and constructed several natural gas fired combined cycle power plants. Previous to Southern Energy, Mr. Bulpitt worked in renewable energy research for Georgia Tech Research Institute. Mr. Bulpitt received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech, and is a registered professional engineer in Georgia.
