Margaret K. Offermann, MD, PhD joined the American Cancer Society on February 1, 2007 as Deputy National Vice President for Research after serving on the faculty of Emory University School of Medicine where she was Professor of Hematology and Oncology. The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service. Dr. Offermann plays a leadership role in all intramural and extramural research programs at the ACS. The American Cancer Society is the largest source of private, nonprofit cancer research funds in the United States, second only to the federal government in total dollars spent.
