William J. Todd
President and Chief Executive Officer, Georgia Cancer Coalition
William J. Todd serves as President and CEO of the Georgia Cancer Coalition. The vision of the Coalition is to move Georgia to the top ranks of the states in cancer care over a ten year period. Since his appointment in late 2003, he has strongly emphasized sharpening strategic focus and maximizing opportunities to leverage funding with federal and private partners.
Immediately prior to joining the Coalition, Todd was a member of Governor Sonny Perdue's staff, serving as founding Executive Director of the Commission for a New Georgia, designed to infuse expertise from the private sector into the operations of state government to improve efficiency and effectiveness in a changed culture.
Todd was the founder of Encina Technology Ventures, an early-stage technology venture capital fund in partnership with Atlanta developer Tom Cousins. He was the founding president of the Georgia Research Alliance, a strategic partnership of the six research universities in Georgia, joined by the business community and state government. Over ten years, the Alliance raised nearly $1 billion dollars from state, federal and private sources to invest in promising programs and projects in the universities.
Todd spent his early professional career in various administrative assignments in the Emory University System of Health Care, at hospitals, clinics, and the school of medicine. Prior to heading up the Georgia Research Alliance, he was Assistant Vice President for Medical Administration at the Robert W. Woodruff Health Sciences Center.
Todd serves on the National Board of the American Cancer Society, the Board of Directors of the Georgia Chambers of Commerce, the Board of Trustees of the Georgia Tech Foundation, the Georgia Tech Alumni Association Chairman-elect, and Andrew College trustee-emeritus, as well as the Chairman-Board of the Rotary Club of Atlanta. Todd is the past President of Rotary Club of Atlanta.
Bill Todd is a 1971 graduate of the College of Management at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and attended the Institute for Educational Management at Harvard University. In 2000 he received an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland.
