From nutrition-enhanced foods to plants that make drugs, biotechnology is as much of a driver of progress in agriculture and food processing as it is in healthcare. In Georgia, agriculture and food processing are major parts of the state’s bioeconomy and critical to its development and growth. The state’s universities, companies and farmers have been among the most aggressive in the world in promoting biotechnology research and application. Panelists will discuss the next generation of products emerging from agricultural biotechnology research, including nutrigenomics. They also will explore challenges that scientists, companies and farmers face in winning public acceptance of these new products.
